Drawing from the work and legacy of the Kamoinge Workshop created by a group of black photographers from the 60s, the panel will feature artists Hassan Hajjaj, Sam Lambert, Shaka Maidoh, and Hasnae El Ouarga to discuss the notions of collectiveness, collaboration and individual artistic practices while uniting with a purpose. A kikuyu word, Kamoinge means ‘a group of people acting together’ and reflects the ideal that animates intentional collective work and thinking among creatives. The conversation will be moderated by Janine Gaëlle, independent curator and co-founder of The Recovery Plan cultural center in Florence.
